Veni, Vidi, Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered)
History contains tales of human conquest, expansion, and the drive for new technology. Veni, Vidi, Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered) employs digital painting on canvas to question the ramifications of human interactions with nature through an emblematic display of marine organisms, anatomy, and objects. The surreal merging and disjoining of images convey a dual narrative which addresses the present Anthropocene Epoch and the artist’s own experience of existence in the current times of environmental catastrophes. Inspired by eX De Medici’s artwork The Theory of Everything (2005), each composition reflects motifs of human manipulation, power, conflict and the fragility of life. Through these depictions, Veni, Vidi, Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered) intends to communicate and challenge the viewer’s attitude and understanding of human history, intergenerational equity and the future of the natural world.
